Additional formats

The list of formats above represents all the formats DaVinci can handle internally. But there may be many more import/export options available on an individual PC. DaVinci optionally supports the import of graphics by means of .FLT graphic import filters. These filters are usually shipped with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

End users can find out which filters they have on their machine by exploring the [MS Graphic Import Filters] section of WIN.INI (16 bit filters) or the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\Import key in the registry (32 bit filters and 16 bit filters registered in Windows NT). DaVinci can poll WIN.INI or the registry on import and add the list of available .FLT-supported formats to its list of acceptable file types.

While Microsoft has been responsible for the release of most .FLT's in use, there are a few optional filters available for download from Microsoft's FTP archives. A few third-party MSGF-compatible filters are also available, including our own .SHG import filter supplied with with our ThinHelp graphics extension library for Help development.
