the GIF file format developed by CompuServe, and one
variant of the TIFF file format developed by Aldus, make
internal use of LZW compression technology which is
patented by Unisys.

In order to use LZW compression in your application
programs, either for compression or decompression, you
must acquire a redistribution license from Unisys Corporation.

DaVinci's IPF_ALLOWLZW flag may be used to enable the
GIF and LZW-compressed TIFF functions in DaVinci if and only
if you have purchased such a license or made arrangements
with Unisys for redistribution of software using the compression
technology. All other use of LZW compression constitutes a
violation of Unisys' copyright.
